Hugely Experienced Star of Children’s and Live TV

Nino Firetto’s first TV appearance was in 1984; he was the host of a daily live show for Sky TV back then. It was called Skytrax, and it was a video music-based station. After a few years they brought in News and other services which faded out the music.

After a few months at Skytrax, he moved on to hosting regular shows on Music Box broadcasting to Europe via satellite, the show was imaginatively called “Nino Firetto Totally Live”. The show was also shown on Granada TV which aired later in the evening as part of their night time youth programs. Then in 1985 came the audition for a children’s television show at Thames TV called “Splash”. It became the flagship children’s program, and it was set up to be their answer to the BBC’s Blue Peter.

Splash was shown weekly, and it was a live magazine program. The target audience was children between 6 to16 years of age. The program ran for 52 weeks of the year for just over 3 years. Around that same time, he was also asked to co-host a Saturday morning children’s program with ITV called “Get Fresh”. He was a busy bunny back then juggling 3 sometimes 4 different television shows a week, in fact he was hosting “Live” television 6 days a week.
